New Year, New Week, New Day

Something that I have been thinking about a fair bit recently, as have many others, is the new year. 2016. I still don't understand how time remains constant, yet seems to go faster and faster every year. I guess as a percentage, our experiences are getting fewer and fewer...yet there are so many possibilities. Too many, in fact, to dwell on past problems, fear, regrets, even successes. This year I intend to try my best to live in the here and now

Write it on your heart
that every day is the best day in the year.
He is rich who owns the day, and no one owns the day
who allows it to be invaded with fret and anxiety.

Finish every day and be done with it.
You have done what you could.
Some blunders and absurdities, no doubt crept in.
Forget them as soon as you can, tomorrow is a new day;
begin it well and serenely, with too high a spirit
to be cumbered with your old nonsense.

This new day is too dear,
with its hopes and invitations,
to waste a moment on the yesterdays.
— Ralph Waldo Emerson, Collected Poems and Translations

Okay, Ralph Waldo Emerson. Write it on my heart? I think I will also write it out and frame it on my desk so that I can ponder it over coffee every morning.  Seriously. If I can see it everyday and remember it every time I drink coffee (which is a LOT) I should be able to remember to make the most of each day. I'll be doing that this weekend, so check it out over on my instagram. I've gotten a few songs all set up, new brushes and paints, and I'm really bad at painting. If you decide to join me, hashtag it so I can see it! #helloelsiebee
